Halle Berry was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in a single-parent household with her mother, Judith Ann Hawkins, who worked as a psychiatric nurse. She has an older sister, Heidi Berry-Henderson, and a younger sister, Reva Berry. Her father, Jerome Jesse Berry, was an African American hospital attendant who later became a bus driver.
